Northwest Youth Services has recently started the Vocational Readiness program as a way to focus our efforts and resources on supporting our program participants to achieve and maintain sustainable employment and become self-sufficient. Currently our programming consists of the following aspects supporting employment readiness:
Individual Case Management: Youth have direct access to a Vocational Case manager who can provide individual support and services to clients currently seeking employment.
Youth Grown: A seed-to-market education and employment prepardness program that provides opportunities to get hands on experience working as part of a team in planting, growing, and harvesting food to bring to our local market stand. Youth participants work with staff and community volunteers to gain experiemce in all aspects of bringing food to market, including actual marketing and sales of the produce.
Summer Jobs/Youth Jobs: Our summer jobs program started as part of Teen Court, where youth under 18 have an opportunity to work for 6 weeks over the summer in one of our partnering community organizations. We are beginning to expand that program to serve other youth in our housing programs on a year round basis. Participating youth will be paid to get supervised, on-the-job training in a variety of contexts. Stay tuned to learn how this program is growing and how you can be involved!
Job Club: Group meetings to build peer and mentor support networks for youth searching for jobs. Meetings also address relevant job preparation topics throught workshops and other activities.
